RESNET Field Inspector Classroom Training and Test

Who should take this course?
This course trains students to be RESNET Certified Field Inspectors and prepares them for the RESNET national field inspector exam. It is expected that students have some familiarity with home comfort diagnostics, residential construction and/or HVAC systems. This course is for energy auditors, remodelers, builders, insulators, HVAC contractors, and housing inspectors. Others are welcome to attend, but it is recommended they do some studying in these fields prior to coming to training class. Study materials will be sent when course registration is received. Cost of three-day training: $650 + $50 RESNET Exam Fee (credit card required for exam)

What will you learn?

  1. An understanding of building science principals and residential energy use.
  2. How to conduct a comprehensive diagnostic analysis of a home.  
  3. How to obtain all necessary data to allow a complete home energy analysis using REM/Rate™, a computerized home energy modeling program.
  4. How to use state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, including a blower door and Duct Blaster™
  5. How to evaluate the energy performance, comfort and safety of a house.
  6. What to look for, such as, hidden flaws often found in residential construction that can cause high utility bills, discomfort, moisture problems and indoor air quality problems.

The course uses "Residential Energy" as its text book.

How will you become certified?
To become certified as a professional field inspector, you must successfully complete this training course, pass the RESNET national rater exam and complete three (3) field ratings.  You work directly under the supervision of a certified RESNET Home Energy Rater. You will be able to produce all field data required to complete energy rating reports that will help homebuyers and homeowners qualify for energy rebates and a variety of private and government loan programs.
